With the rising numbers of Instagram AND TikTok refugees, I finally learned more about dansup – Pixelfed's creator and sole developer – and probably should have listened to my guts when I came across Pixelfed for the first time. There always has been something off about this service and I couldn't put my finger on it until recently.
So, because of Dan's unreliability and attitude towards contributors, I thought it'd be better to move my entire account to a new instance, as Pixelfed claims to support the migration of followers, following AND posts. As it turned out, I chose a server that's in the midst of backend upgrades and so both my old and my new account on lens.im are borked. While pixelfed.social is convinced that only my followers have been moved, all of my followings (inaccessible) and posts (still accessible) still remain on it, whereas my profile on lens.im is completely empty.
There also appears to be another issue related to the brief defederation of pixelfed.social, which pretty much froze the syncing of my account with other instances – viewing my old account from mstdn.myifn.de my bio hasn't been updated since my last post, even though I've already changed it three times.
Honestly, if the account migration won't finish until Wednesday, I'll just wipe both accounts and never bother with anything even remotely related to Pixelfed again. Just reading Dan's posts while pixelfed.social suffers from multiple issues – some caused by the influx of new users, some persisting since I joined in July, 2024 – already give me a migraine but this account migration process is almost as painful as a kidney colic.
