20 May

Overcast, weak winds and 18°C (12:07 PM) – the weather was even less optimal than during the last field trip. I wasn't expecting to see much and I had to hurry up due to every zone, except most parts of Zone II, being dominated by common meadow-grass (Poa pratensis), a grass I wasn't familiar with until recently and has been giving me waves of allergic reactions, including hay fever, since it started to bloom around 6 May.

Despite the weather, I was able to encounter three L. megera around the edges of "Mixed Field", which has seen a further reduction of its alfalfa fields to 1/4th of its 2024 size, with roughly 50% of the remaining southern half having been mowed but left on the ground. One A. levana f. levana may have passed me quickly in Z II but I was unable to properly confirm it.

Besides this, the grazed paths also are being taken over by common meadow-grass and there have been no signs that my town will mow any of their spots anytime soon, with nearly all grasses already reaching as high as 1,30 m, making it impossible to make any observations.

With weather forecasts predicting unstable conditions starting on Thursday and lasting for at least a week, I can't tell whether I'll be able to engage in any field trips for the time being, especially as long as I'm prone to severe allergic reactions and still need to get some important appointments unrelated to my research out of the way.
