Location Index

The following table covers all species by location. Please keep in mind that this covers all species ever observed at each location and thus does not highlight species that have migrated to other spots, may have disappeared over time or happen to be temporary guests. + As of 24 June, 2025, M. athalia has been expanded to the species complex "Melitaea athalia spc." and includes M. athalia, M. aurelia and M. britomartis due to all three species being likely to appear in my region. Only the analysis of male individuals' genitals is considered to offer proper diagnosis according to professional lepidopterologists, despite the females of all three species being indistinguishable even in terms of their genitals, thus theoretically being able to mate with males from all three species and not necessarily forming three fully individual species.

++ Prior research conducted in my area lists both hyale and alfacariensis, however due to adults being indistinguishable from each other, I still am searching for caterpillars to properly identify the individuals. They also may be part of a species complex rather than two individual species.
